Olivier Pitras

Olivier Pitras
Skipper, expedition leader, guide and naturalist, Olivier’s dream of adventure has taken him over the seven seas for more than 20 years. In 1999, he became the first Frenchman to sail the Northwest Passage. A true lover of the Arctic, where he has been living for the past 15 years, he is committed to preserving it and sharing his passion with the rest of the planet. From Tromsø, Norway, he has initiated eco-tourism tours, which combine sailing courses with the discovery of the polar environment.

Gregory Heming
A multi-talented character with numerous passions, doctor of philosophy in ecology, author, journalist, speaker, Canadian Gregory Heming has spent the past 40 years fighting for the protection of wilderness and native people. In charge of the stops over until October 2008.
Laurent Ceresoli
Laurent Ceresoli
Co-skipper. Vice-World champion in rowing sport. He was skipper for non profit educative and ecologic organizations before starting in polar navigation. He has Already made an Arctic campaign onboard Southern Star.

Frederic Bonzon
Technical manager, Frederic can handle any situation with an expert hand. His inventive genius, his energy and his good spirits enable him to take up any challenge with a great deal of humility. Working as First Mate on five previous Arctic expeditions, he has spent a total of 29 months beyond the Arctic Circle.

In charge of logistics for an international training organization, Vonne has sailed around the globe as crewmember on various expeditions. A passionate advocate for nature who is deeply concerned about its future, Vonne brings her invaluable experience and expert organization skills to this complex expedition.
Dephine Maratier

Delphine Maratier
Professional photographer for 15 years, Delphine Maratier was trained in Paris by great agencies such as Sygma (now named Corbis), France Press and some photo reporters. Her taste for adventure and meetings will lead her to travel throughout the world.She will be in charge of both photo and video shooting until Pond Inlet.

He is our permanent contact on shore and will be the link between the boat and the rest of the world.
Roger is in charge of the booking of the "partner crewmembers".

Thomas binet
Thomas Binet
In charge of the scientific coordination of climate change issues to be raised during the expedition, Thomas is an agronomist with a specialization in marine environment. After an experience in international organizations and research institutes in environmental policy, Thomas decided to dedicate more of his time to climate change issues, mitigation and adaptation, and quite naturally joined the expedition.

Adeline Borot
Adeline Borot
With a background in environmental economics, Adeline gained experience in development policy and programs of poverty reduction in Africa. Enchanted by the project " Around North America ", Adeline decided to join Thomas as part of the scientific coordination team. She will bring her precious expertise of climate change and its impacts on developing countries in term of food security, water supply, biodiversity conservation among others.

Michel Janssens
Michel Janssens
Scientific writer as strict as a doctor of Pharmacy but under the law of the flap of a butterfly's wings... The yellow ballast on the picture of the return of Ocean Search to Wales after the first Northwest Passage travelled from the Kerguelen Islands to the Svalbard and from the Galapagos Islands to Hong Kong.
Planning to stay ashore during Around North America, he keeps his pen wet with salted water in order to shed light on the main scientific topics the expedition will review. He has both the expert's eye and the curious witness' one to decode the wake of Southern Star for her friends and fans.

Thierry Robert
Thierry Robert
Independent film director and cameraman. He worked for the main French and foreign TV productions, on all the grounds of adventure of the planet. He directed numerous rewarded documentaries, included " The Grand Crossing " (Best Film NY Film Festival 2001), " Voyage to Forbidden Tibet " (Grand Prize in Montreal Film Festival 2006) or the worlwide TV series " Carnets de Plongée ". 
Profoundly humanist, he decided to join the expedition for the tremendous human adventure which it represents and its powerful message for the future. 
Vincent Berthet
Vincent Berthet
Vincent spent five years on a schoolship during his teenage years. From then on working with TV documentaries, he's soon sensitive to our planet evolution. On board Southern Star since Alaska, he's making pictures in order to share the adventure with other people.

The expedition’s Press Attachée. Fond of wide spaces and beautiful pictures, Noëlie naturally is drawn toward documentaries and journalistic ventures. She became involved in this adventurous project in order to make journalists and the public aware of its goals. Her objective is to create permanent connections with journalists and to make sure that the venture has the media coverage it deserves.
Alain D'astros

Alain Drujon D'astros
Confirmed and passionate sailor , Alain put his bag on the ground in Vancouver after around thirty years of navigation. He is now a webmaster, and takes charge, among others, of the website 69Nord.com. The virus of the sea not being curable, he now took back his activities of skipper and continues to manage AddAWebDesign from his office or fromthe sea according to the navigations which are asked him. He organized our stopover in Vancouver.

The Flying Dutchman of the team, in charge with Alain of our stopover in Vancouver. A globe-trotter with an engineering background, he currently lives in Vancouver where he manages an environmental management software company, and jumps on every opportunity to go sailing. He’s also the vice-commodore of the Bluewater Cruising Association, which hosts Southern Star in Vancouver.
Noëlie Pansiot
Marcelo Adano
Director of the Historical Naval Museum of Acapulco, Marcelo coordinated and organized our Mexican stopover. According to him, support projects as ours is a part of the Naval Museum mission. Its slogan is "Cuanto mas sabemos de donde venimos, mejor sabemos hacia donde vamos" .
Helga
Helga Lilja Björnsdóttir
Icelander, horticultural technician specialized in the geothermal greenhouses and in outdoor planning. Through the years worked independent in many fields, for example;  driverguiding, skiing teacher, garden designer, handicarfts. Helga has been the last years a Ranger in the National Park of Thingvellir and a warden in the preserved aeria Thorsmork. She now works freelance in turisme. She was our coordinator during our stopover in Iceland.
Knut Vibe

Knut is born in Norway, but resident of Switzerland, anesthesiologiste and specialist in intensive care, co-founder and administrator of a medical company and former professional photographer, profession he has partialy taken up again two years ago.. The wild nature always fascinated him, he was able with happiness to cross a part of the most beautiful regions of the globe and to measure as well the impact of the man as the climate changes. He is the coordinator of the arrival events to Tromsö.
Robert Morton
Robert Morton
Oceanographer and Ocean Racing Sailor. Rob has been sailing since 1955. He received a Ph.D. in Marine Geology and after working for the US Navy for several years, started the SAIC office in Newport RI. As manager of SAIC Newport, he conducted studies of the environmental impacts of dredged material disposal and applied high tech navigation and electronics to Oceanographic Studies. In 2007, he co-founded Newport Biodiesel and now produces clean biodiesel from Waste Vegetable Oil. In 1976, Rob's family chartered SOUTHERN STAR and took her to the Bicentennial Tall Ship regatta in Newport. He organized our stop over in New York and Newport.
Robert Morton

Technician specialized in electricity and mechanics, he joined the technical team to Tromsø from January, 2008. It is not a fate, lover of the polar regions, he sailed there for ten years. He has participated in about ten stages as team member / technician .
